I'm a professional weight loss counselor and life coach based in Las Vegas, Nevada. My goal is to support people so they can become their best, and most fulfilled selves!
First, I must say that I attend a weekly meeting led by X485. The book is very well written, and sounds very much like him in person. His dedication to his students and his willingness to share not only his difficulties, but his triumphs is outstanding. Each week he greets us with a smile & a hug, and always provide us with useable and practical suggestions for us as we pursue our own weight loss goals. I will be using the book daily between meetings, to help me maintain my focus and to achieve my weight loss goal. I cannot adequately express how very much I admire this man, and all he has done for me and many, many other people who have found incredible health benefits from losing weight.
This book is filled with the life experiences necessary to accomplish and maintain healthy weight loss. It is a life changing read!
Excellent book with humor, truth, and great advice. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
1) What's in the book:
The author begins with his own history of obesity and how he finally, permanently, overcame that challenge; he then shares brief profiles of successful - and not so successful - folks he has counseled, providing related "tips and traps" for the reader at the end of each profile. The next section of this book is a guide for the reader for their entire weight loss journey, from suggestions that really help at seven days in, to 30 days, to 365, and more. He includes easy kitchen and food shopping hacks to help the reader on his/her journey, too.
2) Why I liked it
Lively reading AND useful! With the dozens of short profiles of people he's worked with, I couldn't help but identify with some of them. I think every reader is bound to find him/herself in there somewhere. I enjoyed the author's breezy, humorous style, and appreciated his brutal honesty about the ways he would sneak food as a child and young adult. It's not a diet book, yet it both inspires and informs a reader who'd like to be at a healthy weight, like me!
This is an EXCELLENT book! -- VERY entertaining. The author's personal story is totally riveting. I also thought his "tips" on weight-loss were very useful and practical. I'm a 'mature' guy, and I know first-hand how difficult it is to lose weight as we get older. That old saw that "the metabolism slows down" is really true. One of the best things about his book is the side-benefits of turning up the metabolism a notch. - Another, even MORE important point is "weight-maintenance" - I actually think that maintaining a substantial loss is MORE difficult in losing the initial weight. - The author's tips on "how to maintain" were very helpful.- I have even given the book to friends of mine as a "health-gift". --- What can I say... it's amazing, entertaining, VERY helpful in the weight-loss area... and an all around good manual on doing one of the most helpful / healthy things one can do... lose weight and stay on the healthy side of life...
This is such a great book; so different from any book I've ever read about weight loss. It's a quick and easy read. If you have ever struggled with your weight, you will see yourself in more than one of the people the author describes in this book. #485 is frank and honest, understanding and kind, and provides inspiration and simple useful tools and thoughts about how to live a healthier, happier life. Buy this book. You won't be sorry.
The author is a very good writer and offers a glimpse, through the stories of individuals he has worked with, into the world of weight loss and the human mind! This is an excellent read even if you are not trying to lose weight. It is a collection of easily read, insightful stories.
