If defining, "normal", for you means simply what the majority of people do/are, then it's normal to be overweight in America. Obesity isn't far behind, sadly. Many nations on the planet are rapidly following this dangerous trend.
In the case of X485, his struggle with weight began before he entered school. Launched on this bath by food obsessed parents, eating quickly became the top interest for the chubby child, overweight teen & morbidly obese adult that grew from that. Diet after diet would be imposed. I half-heatedly attempted them to very small, always temporary degrees of success. Predictably followed by re-gains to higher & higher numbers. Seeing 100lb by 8 years old, 200lb by 12 years old and nearing 300lb by 15 years old. Interrupted by rapid and unhealthy drops, this became regular life for X485 & many others.
Radical and desperate measures were taken in the mid 90s and an epiphany began. Perhaps a cure was taking place. A major back step left X485 despondent that his destiny was to be shackled in this body, a slave to its appetites. A shorter than average, much less happy life was what there was to look forward to.
Regarding that epiphany, it was derailed, but thank God, remained alive. I reclaimed myself & the transformation began. All in all, 300lb came off over a 4-year period & has stayed off since the year 2000. With no real career to speak of, X485 quit his 15+ years job to redefine his future. A passion to help others with their weight loss became by life focus & it's paid off handsomely.
Professional success came teaching classes in Southern Nevada, Central California, and many Zoom meetings. Thousands of people have put their trust in me, a weight loss counselor, and I've been privileged to see so many do what they thought could never be done. From this, observations, personal case studies and some practical recipes were put together and from that, "Confessions Of A Weight Loss Counselor", was born!
My second book, "101 Ways Your Life Is Better Thin", is my newest project. With a perspective that came with 22+ years of struggling with maintaining my weight loss (yes, believe me, it is a constant struggle with no permanent fix) could provide. With an intentional lighter touch and briefer content, the serious message remains.
Unlike other vices such as cigarettes, alcohol, gambling, drugs and many other behavioral addictions, we must eat. Uniquely, the balance of consuming and not overdoing it is a daily challenge. Whew, is it ever! So, to continue this until one's final day takes an endless well of purpose.
No one loses weight & never returns to old habits because they wake up one day with perpetual willpower. Unfortunate as that is. Also, few find salvation because they simply decide one day that their top kryptonite (insert favorite high fat, sugar, salt, greasy example of your choice) no longer tastes good. What to do? Keep your eyes on the prize!
The long list of perks is the lighthouse providing structure, navigation, hope & direction. So, behind the examples is true subsistence. They guide us to know it's worth it. Profoundly when you begin to list them. I chose 101 as a focal point for the book, but with time it goes on & on. If I were to rewrite it even now, it would need to be "167 ways & counting your life is better thin". But books to get edited, self published & sold that way. So, I stopped.
Admittedly, the end portion where I purge some of my gluttony that got me to my ever increasing size was an unexpected piece of inspiration added to unite us and bring home the happy ending we can all achieve. Compose your own list & see what lands in our Venn diagram and what's in your own pot of gold.
